  1. it is…
I work at a restaurant and one of my managers is STILL paying off her college loan even though you can kind of tell that her going to college was a waste of time. lol.
    She is 38 years old.
Anyone who wants to go to college and is looking for a good career, probably has taken out a loan. Financial aid is hard to come by here and this is the only way that people who cant afford to pay for college can do so.
They give you such a high amount on a loan, some of which you probably never use, so you end up spending that extra amount of personal items, and when you graduate, your bills start coming in, and yes its at a low interest rate, but its stressful.

  2. As you don’t quote the figures in the news it’s difficult to answer.

My daughter finished her university courses last year and had a debt of just over £10K, she funded the rest of the course herself through part time jobs, she never asked us for a penny.

Her view was that she needed to invest in her career which would be repaid when she obtained a much more highly paid job.

Trouble is – most kids these days think that Uni is the best way forward but it leaves a lot of people looking for a very few jobs, and most of the craft type jobs are now being ignored.

Besides, 12.5K? try buying a house and owing £200K. 12.5K is nothing for a good education – as long as you don’t waste it.

  3. You are correct

Some people still trust government statistics!

  4. Yeah it is a joke, the Gov. switched from grants to loans as a way to let more people have access to education (because you get more money) but really it’s just a way to switch all the cost to the student (because you gotta pay it back) so really people are worse off. And these tuition fees are a joke, I went to uni in sept 2005 so I’ll probably only have 10000 of debt but my friend started the year after when tuition fees came in and she goes to uni in London so she’ll have about 25,000 plus any overdraft she uses!!!! I think the tuition fees are wrong cos she’s not getting 3X the quality o f education even tho she pays 3X as much as I do! And it’s so wrong of the government to bring them in just to please the unis which just means young people are saddled with loads of debt as soon as they enter their 20s, never mind all the debt you’re gonna get into with mortgages etc!!!

  5. everything in life cost money!! from turning on a light to writing a letter, but if you did not turn on the light to write the letter you might not get that dream job you have been thinking about and working towards for the last x amount of years!!
i know students owe a lot of money and they are in debt but when they are qualified and they have the job they worked x amout of years for!! they will appreciate the true amount of money they would have lost if they worked in sainsburys stacking shelves, instead of studying and penny pinching and taking a gamble on being able to pass tests!!
you cannot pull your socks up if you dont have any!! so your feet will always be cold, nor can you get a job without the qualifications you get in your college life!!
you took a gamble and you have to make it work and pay money back to banks, but the cost of living has gone up, so will the wages you are going to get paid, when you pass the tests for the qualifications you went to college for!! thats all the good news i have for you.
except i never loved school, i cannot spell properly nor do i use grammar properly. so i just went and got a job, i have had plenty of jobs over the years and none have amounted to much, all dead end jobs!! but if i had of tried i might have a good job and a nice house and nearly have paid my morgage of and finished bringing up my kids!! not having to work forever just to keep my head above water, because i did not listen when i was told to do something, you might not be happy about a lot of things but you are going in the right direction and you will be able to put your feet up and relax when you get old i hope!! because you went to school, college and university and had the will to take on a debt to pay for your future, good luck you are already doing better than i tried to do!!xx
